SMESA Newsletter
A publication of the Stella Maris Ex-Students Association
Vol 1, Bi Annual Issue, Oct 206 – July 2007
Greetings to all of you for 2007 and it has started very well for the alumni and the students whom we wish to help. The school was able to garner funds for the new building it proposes to build by having a fete in October 2006 and a Usha Uthup nite in February 2007.
This year is the Golden jubilee year for Stella Maris. The school is planning a Golden Jubilee event and have invited everybody who was associated with the school in the last 50 years. Through this newsletter, we are inviting every alumni to participate in this event and make it a grand success. Please spread the word around so that we can have more alumni attending this event which is scheduled on September 4th and 5th.
Sr Humbeline was in Bangalore this year. She actually told me where I had sat in the
classroom all those thirty years ago. She is still the same smiling Sister radiating inner beauty.
Fun-fete on October 27 th to 29th:
We had loads of fun on the annual fete where the alumni had sponsored many prizes along with the parents. The children were ecstatic and the sudden downpour from heaven did not deter their spirits. Apart from adding to the school building kitty, it was a fun break to both the school kids, teachers and the parents who participated wholeheartedly.
Usha Uthup Concert on Feb 23rd
It was once again down memory lane for us with Usha Uthup. It was a great evening on February 23 rd when Usha had all of us dancing to her tunes with her inimitable voice at the St. Joseph 's grounds. The school, parents and the Alumni contributed to the staging of the event which was a great success, considering that it was conceived in a very short time.
We had a Career guidance week in the 1 st week of January 2007. It took us back down memory lane where we were glued to our seats and devoured every word that was being said by the career guidance counsellors. This year, we had Alakha Puranik who spoke about career in advertising. She is an alumni and contributes to SMESA. Lilly, our mentor in SMESA, despite a busy schedule(she travels from Atlantic to the Pacific) talked about career in IT. She should know, working in IT Bellwether Infosys.
The others who shared their career experience were Madhalambika who is an Architect, Rajeshkumar on a career in Hotel management, Prof Anandham on a career in Finance and Aravind babu on a career in Airlines and Ticketing.
The alumni donated 25 fans this june to the school. With this, I guess both the children and the students can keep their cool.
We sponsored a school topper in the 10 th who has joined the MES college. Her father was extremely grateful to the alumni for taking away a small portion of his burden. The alumni intends to track Abhilasha's academic performance. We will keep you posted on this.
We also awarded a few toppers in the Kannada medium in the name of Sr Mariella and Sr Benilde. 10 others were given scholarships to pursue their studies in a diligent manner.
In the month of july, we gave away school uniforms and socks to 20 students.
Requesting all of you to donate generously so we can keep the alumni initiatives going.
